Upper endoscopic procedures

Upper endoscopy, also known as an EGD, enables Drs. Mourani and Tarakji to examine the lining of the stomach, esophagus or upper intestine using a flexible tube with its own microvideo camera and light source. It is used to evaluate symptoms such as upper abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, difficulty swallowing or unexplained weight loss.

Drs. Mourani and Tarakji can diagnose inflammation, ulcers and early stage cancer with this procedure. If tumors or polyps are discovered during the procedure, they can often be removed. Upper endoscopy may also be used to treat strictures (narrowings) and bleeding lesions. The entire endoscopic procedure can take as little as 15 minutes under the comfort of “twilight sleep.”

Liver problems

Drs. Mourani and Tarakji can diagnose and treat liver disease and liver cirrhosis. If liver surgery or transplant is required, you will be referred to highly-trained liver surgeons in the area, including those at local university medical centers.

Colonoscopic procedures

Colonoscopy is primarily used to examine the lining of the patient’s large intestines and rectum. During the procedure, Drs. Mourani and Tarakji can diagnose ailments such as intestinal inflammation, diverticulitis, ulceration and bleeding, colitis, polyps and tumors. As with upper endoscopy, tumors, polyps and other lesions can often be removed during the procedure, before they become cancerous.
